During the labor and delivery experience, the nurse we shared most of our time with had an impact on our lives that will never be forgotten. Heather showed me a level of patience that cannot be measured on a chart. There were times I was rude, irrational and indifferent. Regardless of this, Heather was by my side with words of encouragement and support.

Throughout the process of delivering a possible NICU patient, Heather informed us of our options. She focused on the treatments, safety and risk factors and the privacy my husband and I needed to discuss what we wanted. The teamwork all staff members exhibited was impeccable. When baby Elizabeth was ready to enter the world without a doctor in the room, Heather became the rock I needed. My emotional state was a whirlwind of highs and lows; the sound of her voice, confidence in her words and support she gave was exactly what I needed during this miraculous time in our life.

We cannot thank Heather and all other team members at Sanford Labor and Delivery Unit enough. They will be in our thoughts and conversations for many years to come.
