Heather made him feel safe and cared for. It was a relief to the rest of us because it was the first time in hours that he was not shouting.
This evening a patient Heather cared for the previous evening became very confused. He was agitated and angry and kept putting his safety at risk. He continued to ask for Heather and only Heather. The problem was, Heather was not his nurse tonight. So, while balancing her heavy patient load she also made the time to sit with this patient and help calm him down. She has shown extreme compassion and patience before, but she made him feel safe and cared for. It was a relief to the rest of us because it was the first time in hours that he was not shouting.
This is not the first time Heather has gone out of her way to be helpful to all of us in our unit. She is constantly answering call lights, staff assists, and is usually the first to arrive to a fall (even when it is not her patient.) I think all her patients would agree that she advocates for them constantly, and works tirelessly to support them and make them comfortable. She is always my first call for help and is always ready to be called upon. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than Heather. Thank you!
