The open-door policy she promotes allows team members access to problem-solve personal and professional matters.
Since stepping into the role of FRP manager, Heather Leonardo has actively demonstrated compassionate and professional nursing care both at the bedside and from her office. She is so dedicated to the people she leads that she has been known to stay until her RN discharge team finds her in her office after 5 pm. Jokingly, they remind her that it is “time to be discharged” before she can dedicate more time to working late into the night. The open-door policy she promotes allows team members access to problem-solve personal and professional matters. For this author, Heather has shown herself to be caring beyond what I have experienced from my previous job supervisors. When I called in sick, I received a text asking if I needed an extra day off and if I needed soup delivered to my house. But what Heather has done for me in the last few months prompted me to write this letter. Since the holidays, times have been especially taxing at home for me. Heather has invited me into her office for a cup of tea several times and allowed me to verbally process while giving advice on the issues being discussed. Creating a compassionate, approachable atmosphere, Heather has taken me under her wing to mentor me in communication and interpersonal relationships. Heather has proven herself to be a trusted mentor. She is a manager who leads by giving respect to those following her while encouraging her employees to better themselves professionally and personally. This author is proud to be on the FRP team with Heather, leading the team to greatness!
