Heather Little was assigned as a 1:1 nurse for a mother who was 34 weeks pregnant and diagnosed with severe preeclampsia. Heather took extra time to get to know her patient and her story, and ultimately provided the best care for a laboring mother. The additional time she took advocating for her patient and including her patient’s support team in the process did not go unnoticed. When an emergency C-section had to take place, the only person the patient wanted was her nurse, Heather. She gave frequent and meaningful updates to the patient and her support team. Heather was preparing to host family from out of town for the holiday, but spent time outside of her shift to guarantee the patient was able to see her baby in the NICU before leaving. She went above and beyond to make the patient feel seen, heard, and loved.
