Heather, with her unique love of her job, made me feel important and safe. She answered my calls promptly, checked on me often during the night, tended to my comfort, and gave a light-hearted, often funny conversation.
I came to the hospital via ambulance in a serious condition, diagnosed as Left Lower Lobe Pneumonia exacerbated by my serious Heart condition. I was moved from the ER after 8 hours into ICU South. I was immediately met with a team of kind and competent staff who I am sure saved my life. There are many to name, but for this purpose, I want to recognize one of my night RNs, Heather. She instantly greeted me with a wonderful, light-hearted, caring personality. She was not just highly knowledgeable with all the myriad of IVS, monitors, etc., that I was attached to, but her care for my fear and anxiety was obviously a priority in her care for me. Day shift staff were truly wonderful, and my nurse wife was treated with respect and kindness while she was with me every day from 8am to 8pm. During this time, I knew someone who loved me had my back. At night; however, as the pace slowed and my wife was sent home, the fear set in. Heather, with her unique love of her job, made me feel important and safe. She answered my calls promptly, checked on me often during the night, tended to my comfort, and gave a light-hearted, often funny conversation. She was assigned to me for two consecutive nights and volunteered to work a third night as my nurse. I realize I was not the only very sick patient in the ICU South but 99% of the time I "felt" like it. You should be proud of all of the staff in ICU South. As a retiree from the respiratory care department here at Baptist and my wife retiree from PRE-OP care department here at Baptist we know the reality of the job and its pressures and I can say without a doubt that Heather is a true bright star in your system. I hope to find a place to name all the heroes/heroines of this department along with my team of physicians who worked in tandem to bring me to health where I am now at home and still recovering but definitely on the mend. Please recognize Heather and the entire staff of ICU South for their brilliance.
