As a nurse, it's always difficult to leave my husband in others' care. I almost didn't want to leave him his first night on Johnson 3. A flare-up of my husband's accident-related chronic back pain led to his admission. Knowing his high tolerance for pain, I knew it had to be pretty bad. My husband is horrible with names, but when I arrived in the morning to see how his first night in the hospital was, he said, 'That Heather, she was awesome. I haven't slept that well in years. She came right in to give me pain medications without waiting for me to use the call bell, judgment-free and so caring. She was so nice. I'll never forget her.' For him to remember her name speaks volumes!
Just hearing the gratitude in my husband's voice, I was eternally grateful and finally felt at ease with him staying in the hospital because he was being well taken care of. I now have a new appreciation for Heather as a nurse because she went above and beyond for my spouse's acute pain and was very attentive to his needs.
