She has that special aspect of nursing that goes above and beyond what you learn in school and training and makes your loved one feel like the most important person in her care.
My mom was admitted to Hurley after her white blood cells declined from chemotherapy treatments. She had an infection and issues with her throat from a battle with thrush. She was having trouble communicating with everything going on. Eventually, she was transferred and had Heather as one of her nurses. As a daughter seeing a nurse care for your Mom as if it was her own Mom was so special. The nurses at Hurley have all been great, but Heather has the ability to bring calmness to her patients and the loved ones visiting. She did touch therapy with mom and made sure to move her arms and legs to help make her more comfortable. She noticed Mom was a mouth breather, so she added a humidifier option to her oxygen, and you could see almost immediately that it helped Mom breathe easier. Mom had been in and out of the hospital for the last three weeks, and she was the first nurse to think of that. Heather also realized quickly what positions Mom was most comfortable in and made sure to let the oncoming nurses know her preferences. Having to move to comfort measures was unexpected, but Mom declined quickly. Heather reassured us that she was there to make the transition as comfortable as possible for my Mom. The little things matter when emotions are so high, and Heather was respectful and responsive to my Mom and the needs of our family. She has that special aspect of nursing that goes above and beyond what you learn in school and training and makes your loved one feel like the most important person in her care. The hardest day of my life was made a little easier knowing she had such a caring nurse by her side.
