I am usually a grumpy and tough sickle cell patient to work with. I don't want to be bothered until my pain is gone. I was admitted for a second time within a week of my first admission and I was so upset and embarrassed about coming back. What made such a difference is the thoughtfulness and patience of my nurse, Heather. She would go out of her way to make me feel comfortable and made sure she never gave up on me. She encouraged me to walk even when I was feeling bad about myself and walked beside me to make sure I was secure. She didn't make me feel odd when I would need to take my time walking and she always assured me she would be right by my side and would never let me fall. Heather's heart, dedication, and compassion along with her warm smile let you know that she cares so much about who she's helping. Heather's beautiful personality truly shines!
