I was admitted to RRMC for a total knee replacement. The surgery went well, and I was being prepped to go. Heather was doing a final set of vitals when she noticed my O2 sat rate fluctuated. She did not attribute it to the machine but pursued it with the doctor. She would not let me leave until this issue was looked into.
I stayed for a CAT scan and was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms. I was then told I had to stay; Heather had already taken the IV out and another one placed. It is seven days later, and I am finally stable and leaving tomorrow. I firmly believe that without Heather's caring and wonderful nursing skills, I might have left the hospital, my condition could have deteriorated, and I could have lost consciousness and perhaps even died. I am giving Heather credit for saving my life!
