Heather offered help to everyone and was truly an angel for us!
One weekend was particularly challenging in staffing for the STBICU. We were running short pairing 1:1s and tripling ICU patients with two more on the way. It seemed an impossible situation. We were told around 11:30 or so that there was a Meduflex Med-Surg nurse who could come help. We gladly accepted the offer, even knowing most med-surg nurses come to the ICU terrified. We waited and waited but were too busy to call and check on when they were coming. Little did we know, she had already arrived and went straight to work helping one of the nurses!
This angel came into an ICU not knowing anyone nor having ever been to us and got right to work offering help before getting an assignment. Next, I see this unfamiliar nurse go into another room and offer help! Who is this unicorn?! Once the charge nurse was able to leave her room to give report to her, we finally learned that her name is Heather Pettett. This med-surg nurse came into an ICU that was on fire busy and didn’t miss a beat. She took her assignment and an additional patient with no questions. She offered help to everyone and was truly an angel for us! We couldn’t thank her enough for her help!
