I'd like to think that the DAISY Award is a "Purple Heart", a "Medal of Honor and Integrity". I saw the flyer at the hospital and put it in my purse. I commend Heather for the compassionate care, love, and support that she provided to my husband, M. Heather was my pillar of strength, my voice when needed, and the nurse who advocated for the instructions for my husband's last wishes.

Heather provided the kind of loving care for my husband, myself, and our family in a situation we were in that was truly unimaginable for us. She was kind, patient, professional, communicative, and was my voice when I needed her to converse with our family when I could not find the words. My heart is overwhelmed by her compassion and professionalism throughout this difficult time. She fulfilled my every request, and just watching how she cared for my husband was truly amazing.

Although the outcome for my husband was inevitable, I asked for the truth, and she explained everything to me about how the process for the end of his life would begin. I am the luckiest woman in the world to have had that conversation with my husband, that he would communicate with me to let me know when he was ready to go. It was truly a gift of love he provided to me, as Heather confirmed this to me as well. He gave me strength to accept his wishes and to move forward with this extremely difficult decision that would soon become reality.

When I received those words from my husband that it was time, she was right there outside the room just waiting for this information from me. She explained every moment to my husband, myself, and our family as to what this process would be. Her words to us were of compassion, care, and love, just a comfort to all of us. My husband passed away shortly thereafter. Please know the immense gratitude that our family has for her! Although I just met her, I love her. I loved her heart and the passion she has to perform one of the most difficult careers any person could hold. She is the most amazing ICU nurse, and I am forever grateful for her.

Sincerely, with love and gratitude.

Thank you, Heather, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
