Heather called me the other day to assist with a dementia patient that needed her urinary catheter changed and a tap water enema. When I entered the room, Heather had been calming the patient and placed her own cell phone with classical music playing under the patient's pillow. You could clearly see that the patient was enjoying the music as we prepared to change her catheter and give the enema. Heather continued to talk in a soothing voice and explain what we were doing and that, "it's ok and you are safe." We worked with this patient for about 45 minutes and I know if the patient could have spoken she would have said, "Thank you for your compassionate care!"
Heather provides exemplary care to all her patients and in her own time serves as the ALS Support Group coordinator.
