Heather Plank was taking care of a 5-year-old who was very scared and couldn't stop crying. Heather was super calm and patient and talked with her, telling her exactly what she was going to happen through the process.
Heather discovered the child had a puppy at home and started talking about her own dogs. Before long, the crying stopped, and they were engaged in a conversation. The child was calmed and then went to sleep without an issue.
Heather made a difference in this patient's life and experience in a scary hospital with her compassion and gentle care. Heather made a difference in our experience as well. Our child was calmed, and we all could sleep after long hours in the ER and on then up on the Ped's unit.
