As a health care provider, I have high expectations of the care that is provided to patients. Recently, I had my first surgery. I was extremely anxious about the surgery because as a nurse I automatically thought of all the possible complications. My emotions were relieved when I was greeted with a welcoming smile by Heather Rank RN when I arrived. It was a sense of comfort to see someone I knew. Even though I am a nurse and know common protocol, Heather thoroughly communicated the procedure and the timeline of the day. In the PACU I awoke to Heather's face. She recognized that I was having some difficulty breathing and obtained a breathing treatment for me. Heather then recovered me until discharge. Being the day before the holiday weekend, I never felt rushed to recover and discharge. Heather ensured that I had no pain, nausea and made sure I was ready for discharge. Never once did I feel that she wanted to leave for the day. She made me feel like I was her priority. I was so pleased to see that Heather not only admitted me but also was present during recovery and discharge. Her kindness, sincerity, and professionalism were just some of the amazing qualities that made an impression to not only me as the patient but also my husband. Thank you, Heather, for making my first surgery a smooth and comforting experience.
