I have worked with Heather two times recently to transfer patients either to Hospice House or an ECF (Extended Care Facility) for their final days.Heather is always caring and compassionate to family members, the patients, and staff members.Recently, Critical Care cared for a patient with a hemorrhagic stroke. She was intubated and on a ventilator, not responsive, and not expected to survive. The patient had celebrated her 90thbirthday three days prior to admission. Her family had planned a birthday party at her home (a local ECF) to occur three days after her admission to the hospital. When it was apparent that their mother would not survive, the family decided they wanted her to die at home.It was important to the family that she return to her home at the time of the planned party, even though the party was cancelled. They wanted their mother's friends, staff, and residents to be able to say goodbye. The doctor and Heather made it happen.Heather even volunteered to ride in the ambulance to the ECF with the patient.Heather helped this family through a most difficult time in their lives by going above and beyond.
