I’ve never had more respect for someone like I do now for Heather.
I was caring for the patient in room 3321 when I was in the ICU, and on my first day on the job I was introduced to the most supportive family and sweetest patient I've ever had the honor of caring for. I was also introduced to Heather Walton when she came by before her shift to check on the patient. The family then informed me that Heather had helped care and check-in on the patient over the last 30 days that she had been in the hospital. The family began telling me how much Heather had done for them and all the times she had come to check on them. Then, I witnessed her come by that room every free moment she had over the next 48 hours. I witnessed her comfort the family and patient every moment she could and be one of the best advocates she could be. She even checked on me and asked if there was anything she could do to help me or the family. On the day the patient passed away, once again Heather came to check on the family and the patient whenever possible. Then during the patient’s final moments, Heather was there once again for the patient and the family. Heather stayed with that family to help ease everyone's pain and be there for them like they were family of her own. I’ve never had more respect for someone like I do now for Heather. I'm honored to have been able to care for this patient and her family with Heather. I'm also beyond honored to have a co-worker like Heather here at St. Bernards and strive to one day be as good a nurse as she is.
