I am writing this nomination for my father as he became too emotional trying to get his feelings down on paper. My father has lung cancer and his illness has been long and difficult. As my father struggled to write this nomination for Heather Weinschenk he felt there were no words to explain what she has done for him. I myself wonder if he would be here today if it were not for her. Heather has made a permanent impact on our family and her name comes up each day. During his last hospitalization, she took the time to shut the door, hold his hand, and discuss things that seemed impossible to discuss. When my father was overwhelmed with family members, desperate to be with him, she addressed the issue in a professional and compassionate manner so that no one left with hurt feelings. She even made special visits on her day off just to check-in. Heather treated my father as a unique person and special friend giving him the courage to walk through this journey.
