I spoke with a patient's daughter this morning. She said she has been meaning to call to give Heather recognition for her outstanding, above and beyond care.
Patient's daughter said 2 weeks ago her mother and father both sustained injuries from a fall. She said her mother fell 1st around 7 in the evening and then her father fell on top of her. They were not able to get up and their cell phone was not within reach. They laid there for 2 days. Heather was scheduled every other day. Upon arriving, for her scheduled visit, she knew something was wrong. She could not get in the front door and this was very unusual. She headed to the back door because she knew it would be unlocked. When she entered the home, she found both lying on the floor. They had vomited and were covered in urine and feces. A terrifying sight. She quickly called 911 and followed her training protocol to a "T". The stove top and the oven had been left on because they were getting ready to have dinner when they fell. Heather quickly turned off the stove, and made sure the surrounding environment was as safe as it could be, for rescue to arrive. Patient's daughter arrived 15 minutes after Heather. She said Heather came into a horrible mess and she responded calmly and quickly. She said if it was not for Heather, she would not have been able to keep herself in check with her emotions. This was traumatic incident and horrible sight for a daughter to have to endure when it comes to her parents. She said Heather was her rock that day and she does not know what she would have done, had Heather not been there. Mom sustained a broken hip, both were severely dehydrated, both have UTIs, and other complications from laying for 2 days. They both have been admitted to a facility, where they are recovering well at this time! She would like Heather to be recognized because she feels, if Heather had not followed her protocol and helped all to remain calm, this could have had a fatal outcome. She is very grateful and appreciative that Heather goes above and beyond!
