March 2021 Honoree
heidi dussl, BSN, RN, CPN
Heidi took care of my 10-month-old son while he was in the PICU and was going to pass away from a genetic condition. Heidi went above and beyond to take care of my son and to help me and my husband through this very difficult experience. She took the time to understand what worked well for him (his likes and dislikes) even though he was sedated most of the time and was sure to take these into consideration at all times.
I was impressed by how she talked to my son each time she was doing something even though he was sedated. This meant a lot to me that she was treating him just as she would if he was more aware. She also helped me with many memory-making activities including getting handprints and footprints, taking photos (which she is great at!), and getting a clipping of hair.
I am so grateful for her helping with these things. They made my last days with my son special and memorable, even though they were very difficult. All of the staff in the PICU were great, but Heidi really worked to make our time there special and as calm and comfortable as possible even though the situation was a terrible one.

Thank you, Heidi, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
