The relationships she has built and the quality of care she provides have many of our GI providers now working at Community Hospitals willingly accepting our veterans and providing care knowing that Heidi is behind the scenes coordinating their care and following up with any needs that may be required.
On a daily basis, Heidi goes above and beyond in her role to ensure the veterans we serve and the care that is provided is exemplary.
She is praised by many different disciplines and colleagues as being a resource and is respected by these individuals as they trust that she will go the extra mile to get the veteran the care he/she needs. This has all been demonstrated by going to the inpatient floor to provide education on upcoming procedures and help with ENFIT, waiting on the line to opt a veteran into CITC, and transporting the veteran in a wheelchair from the VA to UK because they didn't know where to go and being readily available for a call when visit completed and going back to transport the veteran back from their appointment to the VA.
She builds rapport and relationships with outside CITC providers to ensure we have the ability to ensure the vet can get the care that we may not be able to offer here at the VA with the providers on staff or in a time crunch that is required. The relationships she has built and the quality of care she provides have many of our GI providers now working at Community Hospitals willingly accepting our veterans and providing care knowing that Heidi is behind the scenes coordinating their care and following up with any needs that may be required.
She is an excellent nurse that will never say whatever is asked of her is not her job, but will find a way to make it her job. Whether or not that is troubleshooting with biomed on equipment issues, being innovative and streamlining a process, or coordinating care/service for a veteran that is not established in her service she will and is always someone you can count on to find a solution or solve the need.
Her outlook and positivity in life are infectious to everyone she meets and she makes an impact on those around her to rise to a level of excellence and commitment.
She is someone that is dependable, loyal, and honest. She is a person that you go to that will tell you the truth even if it's not what you want to hear but will also tell you what you need to do to fix a problem/issue and if she doesn't know exactly how to do that she will stick with you for a thousand attempts and never give up.
She is a veteran that continues to serve fellow veterans every day. I have been very honored and blessed to work alongside this Extraordinary Nurse for almost a decade now and her servant's heart has never waivered from her initial decision to serve her country and fellow mankind. It is with humbleness and honor to nominate Heidi Lehman for the DAISY Award.
