Heidi Salsaa, BSN, RN

Heidi is an exceptional nurse. Not only was she knowledgeable about my transplant care, but she was also extremely compassionate, as well as kind and gentle. Whenever I needed her, she was there by my side, offering me encouragement. There were many times she would stand by my bedside just listening and holding my hand when I needed someone to talk to and cry with. During an especially difficult day, I noticed a special pin on her lanyard that said “Henry Ford Transplant Team” on it. I mentioned how much I liked the pin and said that I wished I had a pin like that. She gave me her two pins out of the kindness of her heart so that I could have a memento of my time here and my life-saving surgery! I was so touched that I cried. I was in the hospital on the third floor for over a month. I’ve had many nurses in that time, but Heidi was very special to me. My dad passed away while I was in the hospital, and she was a huge part in helping me get through a really difficult hospitalization. God blessed me with a new liver, a wonderful nurse, and a great care team. I am deeply grateful for the wonderful care I’ve received here and the relationships I’ve formed along the way.
