Heidy was on duty the day that I had to leave the hospital and she showed so much compassion and empathy towards me and having to leave my son, who was honestly in the best place to be cared for.
I had the opportunity of meeting Nurse Heidy when I had my son. My son was born premature and spent 51 days in NICU. When I had him it was the beginning of COVID and everyone was learning and having to deal with not always the best circumstances. I was one of those people; when I was discharged to go home, I was not allowed to be with my son for 25 very longs days due to visitation restrictions. And my husband did not see him from the operating room until we came home.

Heidy was on duty the day that I had to leave the hospital and she showed so much compassion and empathy towards me and having to leave my son, who was honestly in the best place to be cared for. While I was home unable to visit and only allowed to see him via Zoom, I would call each night at 10 and check on him and get any updates. Nights that I spoke with Heidy and I knew she was caring for him were the nights that I got the best sleep and not sitting up crying all night. My husband and I gave Heidy the name “Nurse Mom” because that’s what she was and still is today.

Our son is about to turn 2 years old. Heidy is an angel and we have maintained contact since our discharge. We were able to reunite her with our son right before Christmas. It was the most precious, short reunion, our son went right to her and just laid on her shoulder for just about the entire visit. I truly believe he remembered her, her voice, her scent or all of the above. She continues to go above and beyond even after all this time. She is an amazing nurse, and a great role model for anyone who may have the opportunity to work by her side. We love Heidy and in our eyes and heart she is family!
