Helen then used all her care and compassion to take the patient over to see his wife.
Helen Donizetti was caring for a patient in HASU (Hyper acute stroke Unit) and was informed his wife was in another hospital and had been for several months and now was commenced on the End of Life pathway. This gentleman and his wife have been married for 55 years and this was upsetting for the patient to be away from his wife, now being poorly himself. Helen was informed during the day that his wife's breathing had changed, Helen then facilitated with our Matron for him to visit his wife due to the breathing changes. Helen was going to go over with the patient in a taxi and sit with him until he was ready to return. His wife unfortunately passed away prior to the patient being able to come over. Helen then used all her care and compassion to take the patient over to see his wife, allow him to see her and then wait until he was ready to return.

After such a busy shift and caring for multiple other patients, Helen had the complete and utter heart to allow this man to see his wife again! Helen did not return home until midnight that night, this to us all on the ward brings tears to our eyes that one nurse, one of our own can go that far for a patient.

Helen, I feel deserves recognition in the bulletin for her dedication and compassion. She is a modest person and does not take compliments, we have Gr8tx this and also got her a card to say how inspirational she is. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you too see how incredible Helen is and has gone above and beyond!
