Helena Thompson, RN
Helena is a Critical Care RN who was helping on a medical-surgical unit. When providing care to a patient, her assessment indicated advanced care was needed. Helena initiated the plan to have the patient transferred to the Critical Care Unit. The wife of the patient wrote:
“Helena immediately knew he needed to be in CCU and she called her supervisor.” The patient was cared for in the CCU but sadly, passed away after a 10-day hospital stay. On the DAISY nomination form, the wife wrote, “Jesus wanted him and my husband went to the arms of our Lord. Helena posted condolences that were heartwarming on the funeral home site (acknowledging the outpouring of love of wife and family, lighting a candle, and offering prayers). What an angel she is. An asset to the hospital.”
