When I watch Helene in action, she never hesitates to take on the most difficult or challenging patients.
I would like to nominate Helene Ouellette for the DAISY Award.
Since I began working here at Medical City Surgery Center, I got the pleasure of working with and alongside her. In my 36 years of Nursing, I have worked with a lot of different Nurses. I believe Helene is a stellar Nurse. She is one of the very best Nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She has worked at Medical City Surgery Center for around eight years. She has been a staple to our PACU unit. When I watch Helene in action, she never hesitates to take on the most difficult or challenging patients. I cannot recall one specific time that she did not give outstanding care because she does so with every patient she encounters.
Her care and clinical assessment skills are top-notch. I have watched as she has used this knowledge and skill to orient new staff. She is mindful of different learning styles. She allows the mentee to follow her for a while to see how our facility handles situations. She talks through why she is doing what she is doing. She always answers questions in a respectful manner, never making others feel belittled for their question. Then steps back and allows the mentee to complete the care offering tips and being a resource for questions. I have witnessed several of those mentees becoming solid PACU nurses in our facility.
Not every Nurse loves to continue their education beyond what is required. Helene has been noted to look up and educate herself whenever an unusual diagnosis comes through our surgery center. And she is always willing to share what she has learned.
Helene is a 'Worker Bee"! She will not be found slacking off. When she is at the front door greeting patients as they arrive, she is often noted to be also setting up PACU by completing the glucometer checks or getting discharge paperwork ready for the day. At our center, we take on many tasks. Helen has taken on the extra task of making sure our recovery rooms are both stocked with plenty of nourishments including coffee, cream, juices, soda, crackers, and even peanut butter for one of our Physicians who loves it. She never sees a task as beneath her.
