We would like to formally nominate the department of Hematology/Oncology at LMC Peabody for the Daisy award. From the volunteers who greet patients, to our staff of medical assistants and nurses, as well as our administrative assistant, social worker, pharmacy staff, physicians and nurse practitioners, who always work together as a team to provide excellent patient care. Perhaps Helen Keller said it best "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."
It is clear that we draw our inspiration from our patients and their loved ones as they navigate their difficult diagnosis of cancer as well as our general infusion patients who come to our Infusion Center for treatment for diseases such as MS, RA, Crohn's Disease and immunodeficiencies. But the superb care isn't reserved for just our patients and their families, it is seen in all the Hematology/Oncology staff, in their ability to work well together and demonstrate the same respect for each other. The wife of one of our patients wrote in a card "There are people who do their job, and then there are those who care about the job." Another patient wrote: "To all of you in Hematology/Oncology both behind the scenes and on the front line. Thank you for choosing and doing the work that you do. Thank you for your professional knowledge, your kindness and good humor and smiles. You all provide the wind beneath the wings of man.
Through a kind voice, a smile, a comforting hug or gentle nod, through celebrations of completed treatments and tears of loss we work as a team and provide care as a team.
