Hemra spent that entire night in our room, fighting through it all with us.
My husband, J, and I truly feel that Hemra saved J’s life and is the reason J made it through those hard times. J came out of surgery in bad shape. His heart rate was hanging in the upper 160’s, his blood pressure was dangerously low. He was in and out of consciousness, while the provider and all others believed J should be completely intubated. He would come to, kick his legs, and write messages while his ventilator was in.
Hemra spent that entire night in our room, fighting through it all with us. He was constantly getting approval to change meds. J was trying hard not to fight his ventilator, and Hemra would “listen” to J and his intuition as to what would be best. He suctioned and swabbed his mouth/throat at least 10 times. He tracked down a fan when J was saying he was hot. While Hemra was fighting to stabilize J, he was still checking on me to see that I was okay. He got me pillows, blankets, and water.
From the minute we got into his room until the hours after his shift when he finally left, he was 100% attentive. He came back that evening and did the same. J was by no means out of the woods, but he told me that I could help no one if I didn’t get some rest. Hemra got me a heated blanket, and encouraged me to lay in the recliner and close my eyes. I woke 3 hours later, and our angel on earth was sitting sentry over J. They’d had to change pain meds, go through Zofran, etc, but Hemra had it, and we trusted him.
He had multiple patients those days, and somehow he was able to rush back and forth so that we all were getting what was needed. Hemra is something special. We have prayed for him and feel that God has blessed this world immensely by giving us Hemra. He is an incredible nurse. We had so many incredible caregivers over the 18 days we were in Medical City, and we are so grateful, but Hemra is truly special! Please tell Hemra thank you.
