Henry Robertson 2, RN
When my aunt lay unresponsive in ICU at the end of her life, the room felt heavy with fear and silence. Machines hummed, monitors blinked, and we knew our time with her was short.
In that fragile space, Henry showed us what extraordinary nursing truly means. Before anything else, Henry spoke to us and let us know what he was doing and what the next steps were. He explained each step in gentle, plain language – giving us comfort.
What I remember most is how he included our family. Understanding how important it was to say goodbye together. He worked to safely accommodate additional family members at the bedside. He was sure to ask if there was anything at all that we needed and was a steady witness to our grief – treating my Aunt as if she were his own family member.
The impact was immeasurable. Our panic eased; peace took place. We were able to share memories and quiet goodbyes because Henry protected my Aunt’s dignity and our time with her.
The DAISY Award honors nurses who pair exceptional skill with extraordinary compassion. Henry did exactly that in one of life’s toughest moments, and I will never forget it. Henry defines exactly what the DAISY Award is about and is more than deserving of this award!
