I was a patient on “Hotel Lunder” for just about one month. I have CLL and after a double course of antibiotics, I went into acute kidney injury. It was a very scary time for me. I sensed Hilary knew this for she always came in to cheer me up. She would say “there must be something I can do for you.” I would say, “No, you must have your hands full on this floor.” Then, by magic, a massage was ordered for me, and she did Reflexology, concentrating on my kidneys. Then the next day, music therapy came, and she played guitar and I picked the songs and sang along. When Hilary had results to tell me, she would come in, pull up a chair, shut the door, and tell me how my creatinine was higher today, so they have scheduled me for a kidney biopsy. She did the same when she told me I was in acute kidney tubular necrosis and prepared me for what to expect. When she was on a night shift, she would spend time with me to make me laugh, and we did - the best medicine!

I enjoyed having Hilary as my nurse. I actually missed her when she was off. She made a long, lonely, scary time bearable. She told me she loves her job and it showed. I have never met anyone who actually loved their job. I bet her co-workers love working with her. I believe Hilary is an example of an Extraordinary Nurse. She goes above and beyond her job description. She deserves to be recognized for what she does. For the nurse she is. For the caring and loving person she is. She is truly one of MGHs Shining Stars, but in this case, big giant yellow daisy!!
