November 2024 Honoree
Hilary Winder, BSN, RN
In November of 2023, I was admitted to the ICU due to having a severe asthma attack. I couldn't breathe and was wheezing. I had never been admitted to the hospital before, and I was beyond scared. That night, I met my nurse, Hilary. She made me feel safe and comfortable. Any time I would open my eyes to wake up, she was always there and would say, "Good morning sunshine". During my time in the ICU, I was upset since I had to spend my 22nd birthday in the hospital. Hilary made my day by waking me up and telling me "Happy Birthday" and writing it on my board. I never got the chance to tell her until my grandma was recently admitted to the ICU, but when I saw her, I needed to tell her how thankful I was that she helped save my life and took very good care of me.
When I told Hilary what she did for me, she teared up and said, "You don't know how much that means to me." She then gave me a hug and deep down wish I could give her more props for what she's done for myself and others, for her to see me alive and in normal clothes made her so happy. I am here to write this and will never forget the nurse who is my hero, Hilary Winder!
