Hilda L Roman, RN

While making her daily charge nurse rounds, Hilda noticed a patient with a low oxygen saturation on the telemetry monitor that other staff was ignoring. She immediately went in to check on the patient and then got RT and critical care involved. The patient was then transferred to the CVICU where a chest tube was placed for a large pneumothorax. Had she not intervened, the patient likely would have coded and had a much worse outcome. In the midst of this, Hilda coached staff about alarm fatigue and patient safety. Hilda is also a veteran nurse at Heart Hospital and someone who leads by example. She is consistently advocating for patient safety and is flexible and accommodates the needs of the unit and staffing. She is truly an amazing nurse to work alongside.
