I would like to bring to your attention a nurse who from the beginning of my career as a student until today as a coworker, friend, is someone who I feel embodies the true spirit of the DAISY Award and Parkland Hospital. She is not someone who ever seeks out the limelight but shines simply because she is always ready to help anyone and everyone who needs it.
Hoai’s compassion for both patients and staff is incredible. She can be found comforting a patient or family member both inside and outside the operating room with the same love and concern she shows for her own family. She helps to foster a warm and safe environment for our patients that is so important especially during these uncertain times.
She consistently makes sure that rooms are cleaned, and she completes tasks without ever being asked or wondering whether it is her job. Hoai also makes sure that each coworker she encounters feels respected and welcomed. When we could no longer obtain hats for surgery, she collaborated with another employee to make hats by hand at home and distributed them to anyone and everyone who needed it.
She truly represents every day in her own special way what we aspire to be for our patients and towards each other.
