When our patient passed, I have no doubt that he knew he was being cared for by an angel. Her kindness and compassion shone through in all of her interactions with the patient.
We had a patient who was receiving end-of-life care. Hollie was his nurse while he was here and she went above and beyond for him. She spent a lot of time with him...exchanging stories about places they had lived and visited, their mutual enjoyment of hunting and wildlife, etc. Hollie wrote encouraging and calming messages on his whiteboard, gave staff updates on him, and kept the atmosphere of his room calm and relaxing. One of his last requests was a cheeseburger and Hollie made sure he got it and assisted him with eating it. When our patient passed, I have no doubt that he knew he was being cared for by an angel. Hollie consistently demonstrates this kind of caring to ALL patients that she is in charge of. She treats each patient as the individual persons they are and makes it a point to learn what she can do to make their hospital stay more comfortable. She often goes to visit patients at the end of her shifts or simply to wish them a good night. She shows the same kindness and compassion to patients' families also. Hollie is often seen helping her co-workers with their patient loads without being asked. She has a heart of gold and is very empathetic to our patients and their families. She keeps her co-workers encouraged, which is especially appreciated when our numbers are high and we get spread thin. Hollie is a DAISY Nurse because, in all of her actions, she is everything that makes a Sanford nurse stand out.
