She showed me so much compassion and one of the worst times of my life. She had no idea how much I really needed those kind words.
Holly Claar was one of the nurses who cared for me when I suffered a dog bite to my neck. People are quick to judge especially when you tell them that it was your own pet that you were bit by. Holly came into my room and took the time to talk to me and she was so kind with her words. I explained to her that the dog was newly paralyzed and we had just got home from the emergency vet. I told her I was facing a tough decision with the dog and explained why this dog was so important to our family. The dog belonged to my son's father who passed away in October 2020. I explained how she is so much more than just a pet and it's the last thing my son has that was his dad's. She even had a few tears in her eyes I could tell she was holding back. She came back to my room later that night and printed some information about a free resource about grieving a pet and a hotline to talk to somebody about what was happening. She didn't have to take the extra time that she did to find that information and also print it out. She showed me so much compassion and one of the worst times of my life. She had no idea how much I really needed those kind words. I had also recently lost my brother who passed away in November 22 and my uncle in December 22. Now possibly losing our dog and dealing with my current injuries. It goes to show you that you never know what someone else is going through and something as simple as a smile or a kind word goes a long way, especially to those who are heartbroken. I truly hope she is chosen for this award because I'm also a registered nurse and this was the best experience I have ever experienced during a hospital/ER visit. She is exactly the kind of nurse that the world needs more of.
