I had the pleasure of meeting Holly Delauter in November 2012 when she was there for my first daughter. We spent an entire day together, as I was being induced. She made a long day much more enjoyable; she even stayed 30 minutes past the end of her shift to see my daughter born and keep an eye on me.
Almost three years later, we met again! Words cannot explain how thrilled I was to see her face on Saturday, August 22nd. And, believe it or not, she remembered me and my husband… and our "speedy" first delivery! Only 20 minutes of pushing!!
I was so nervous and in so much pain. However, Holly made me feel like I was with a friend. She asked about our oldest daughter, how we have been, and we talked about her time in Alaska. She told us that she is studying to be a mid-wife; I told her that she was perfect for it! Her sweet, calm, and personable manner made me much more at ease.
Holly remembered from my first daughter that I did not want pain medication via an epidural. The same went for the second time around. The pain was so strong, and many times I thought about giving in. But there was Holly, telling me how great I was doing and that I could do it. She made me follow through with my goal of no meds; and at the end of the night I was so happy she did. She told me I was a great example of natural childbirth. I honestly could not have done it without her sweet, caring, and inspiring personality. Not to mention she took my husband's mind off his nerves… he loved her too!
Holly is an asset to Winchester Medical Center. I feel blessed to have had her as my L&D for both natural deliveries, thanks to her! She is more than deserving of this award, and so much more!
