As I was giving charge report, I noticed the patient putting on makeup and made a comment that I have never seen an ICU patient put makeup on. We all had a good laugh and the patient explained that she never went anywhere without her best face on.
The patient quickly declined and was made comfort measures only. Holly was her bedside nurse that day and went above and beyond compassionate nursing. Holly even put the patient's makeup on her a few hour before she passed. She looked Beautiful!
As the patient's brother was leaving, I stopped him to let him know how beautiful she looked. He explained that whenever she flew on a plane, she would get dolled up to the 9's with her makeup and her best clothes. For her trip to heaven, Holly did her makeup and made her as beautiful as she always made herself for travel. I looked over and noticed that Holly was tearing up. I gave her a hug and felt so proud that day. I was so proud of her.
