If a patient that Holly is assigned is having a bad day, she will spend extra time, getting down to their level and making them feel valued and uplifting their spirits.
Holly is a very caring and thoughtful nurse. We had a patient that was on our unit for an extended period of time, Holly noticed that it was hard for the patient to communicate their needs. So, Holly came up with a great solution and we implemented it and could see the patient's mood change within the next couple of days because their needs were being met.
When this same patient was preparing to discharge, Holly had brainstormed an idea to give the patient some fun socks that whenever the patient would wear them, would bring a smile to their face! She also was very thoughtful in passing forward ideas for a plan on discharge to help with making a smooth transition home after being in the hospital for a prolonged period of time.
As seen in the story above, Holly put a lot of thought into how nursing could partner together with other disciplines to ensure we provided the best care possible for the patient.
Also, Holly recently was trained into the charge nurse role, when she gives me report, she often discusses how she has updated the hand-off report in EPIC so all the staff is aware of any updates and plans for discharge to ensure information is shared to all staff caring for the patient. I have been impressed by how knowledgeable Holly is in regard to all of the patients and often will give suggestions to promote a great patient experience while in our care on the Med/Surg unit.
Holly exemplifies all the Essentia Health core values. The one that stands out to me most often is the value of quality. Holly strives to provide her patients with the best possible care while in the hospital. I often receive comments, cards, and letters indicating how great Holly is as a nurse! Patients just love Holly. She can brighten anyone's day that is feeling down. We are very lucky to have Holly on our team!
Holly goes above and beyond to ensure a smooth transition of patients from hospital to home. She provides excellent patient care as described in the last question. If a patient that Holly is assigned is having a bad day, she will spend extra time, getting down to their level and making them feel valued and uplifting their spirits. I saw a letter from a patient once that had indicated how much better they felt after Holly spent quality time with them while they were in the hospital and provided a listening ear.
