Under her care, my brother-in-law found stability, a testament to her extraordinary abilities. It allowed us to witness his final act of generosity, the gift of life.
My brother-in-law was involved in a traumatic accident. We went from having a normal morning, to saying goodbye as a result of a literal misstep. As the evening unfolded, the gravity of my brother-in-law's accident became clear: his injuries were beyond recovery. Amidst the shock, we discovered his decision to be an organ donor, and the decision-makers in our family proceeded down that path. At the beginning of the night, his vitals were not stable and there were concerns that he wouldn't survive to the point where they could declare brain death or give the team a chance to find matches. The possibility of organ donation seemed distant. When I say Hope didn't sit down for the first 8 hours of her 12-hour shift, I am not exaggerating. For eight relentless hours, she was a whirlwind of action titrating drips, securing supplies, coordinating with medical teams, and liaising with LifeSource. On top of that, she was kind and compassionate, explaining her assessments every step of the way. Her voice was a soothing presence in the chaos. Under her care, my brother-in-law found stability, a testament to her extraordinary abilities. It allowed us to witness his final act of generosity, the gift of life. Every comfort we felt, every moment of peace amidst our grief, not to mention the impact on the patients who received transplants and their loved ones - they were all a gift from Hope. There were many people who played a role and made this possible, and we are thankful for their efforts. This felt like an especially pivotal moment.
