These two individuals were such a part of our family during the worst of times and were absolutely wonderful.
Over the past year and a half, my mother has been enrolled in the Palos Palliative Care Program. During the last three months, she crossed over to the hospice program. During that time, my mother had many ups and downs. Even though we kept mom at home, we always knew that help was just a phone call away. Each time mom would seem like she was doing a bit better, something else would arise, and more help was needed. I never once felt like I did not get the support and help that I needed from any of the staff that cared for my mother. There are a couple of nurses that I feel need to be recognized for their outstanding care, compassion and communication.
First of all, Janet Burda: mom loved her. She always managed to get mom to smile. Janet addressed mom's needs, each and every time something new developed. Janet had an answer for everything. She worked closely with Dr. Arrotti to ensure mom's meds were always appropriate. She was always very supportive to the family. Thank you Janet, for everything! We could not have done it without you.
Next mom's hospice nurse, Kathy Caliendo. Another awesome nurse who was there for all of mom's needs. Not only was Kathy there for mom but was also very instrumental in helping mom's children cope with keeping her at home during Hospice. We certainly were not the easiest crew to deal with, but Kathy managed to help us stay organized and keep it together. Kathy had to have some very tough conversations with my mom and her family. She always managed to get mom to listen to her reasoning. My mom felt very comfortable with Kathy. Taking care of your loved ones at home is very challenging. It takes very special health care professionals to enter into people's homes under very strenuous circumstances. These two individuals were such a part of our family during the worst of times and were absolutely wonderful. Mom is at peace now, but we will never forget the compassion you had for her.
