Hunter Dunlevy, BSN, RN
Recently, an incarcerated patient passed away while on the Medical Intermediate and Intensive Care Unit. The patient’s family was at the bedside and struggling with their grief. The patient's son had not seen the patient for some time and was feeling especially disconnected.
As the patient’s stay in the MIICU was brief, nurse leaders asked if one of the Security Care Unit Nurses could speak with the family, providing insight into the patient’s final days.
Hunter quickly volunteered, ensuring her patients were comfortable and cared for. This allowed the Clinical Coordinator to seamlessly cover them while Hunter could be present with this family.
Hunter came to the unit and provided tremendous empathy and support for the patient's grieving son. She gave him some connection with his deceased parent as he grappled with grief.
