Hunter, RN triaged my mother-in-law (MIL), who is Spanish-speaking, and did his best to communicate with her in Spanish. Although I was there to serve as a translator, he went above and beyond to understand the reason she was there. After she had been triaged, he pointed us to the lab chair and let us know what the next steps would be. He asked for her preference for lab draw, venipuncture, or waiting for the IV to be placed so that she wouldn't have to be "poked" twice.

We were then sat in the internal waiting room and some time went by when he walked over from triage and saw us sitting there. He noticed that my MIL still did not have an IV started. He asked us if they had started it and we said no, he said he would be right back and would start it himself. He was back within 5 minutes and quickly started the IV so that my MIL could get her ordered IV fluids and meds infusing. For the duration of our time in the ED, he was vigilant in ensuring that we were taken care of and continued to check in on us.

Hunter went above and beyond for my MIL, from speaking Spanish to her to make her feel more comfortable, to ensuring we were getting care timely. Hunter is what all nurses should be. He proudly exhibits Providence St. Mary Medical Center's mission. He provided extraordinary care, and was compassionate throughout.

Thank you, Hunter, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
