If there is a medical professional that is the face of kindness, skill, intelligence, compassion, grace, devotion, and high quality it is Huong Yu.
In 2015, D was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She went through three major surgeries and three rounds of intensive chemotherapy over the course of two years. During that time, she was very fortunate to receive exemplary care from all of the physicians, physician assistants, and nurses, especially Huong.
Huong's nursing skills and compassion for her patients are second to none. She clearly sets a new high bar for excellence.
During D's treatments, Huong was extraordinarily attentive, and at times, it appeared that she knew what D needed even before D had to ask for assistance. It was as if she could read D's mind. Truly, Huong made D feel as if she were her only patient. While we knew this was clearly not the case, Huong's devotion and attention to D were nothing less than remarkable especially given Huong's patient load.
And, while Huong was attending to D's medical needs she also made a point of getting to know her as a person and not just as a patient. She emphasized all aspects of D's care including attending to her emotional needs as well as her medical needs. It was clear that she genuinely cared about D as a person. Her compassion was evident in all that she did and to say that Huong consistently went above and beyond is a dramatic understatement.
The quality and level of sophistication of Huong's medical care were remarkable and all the while she did this with a big smile on her face and an extremely cheerful attitude. She made the long and painful days far more bearable for D. Actually, we do not believe that D's recovery would have gone so well without Huong's devotion and extraordinary care and kindness.
