This council exemplifies the very spirit of the DAISY program: teamwork, compassion, nursing excellence, and a steadfast commitment to elevating both the patient and caregiver experience. Their work reflects the true meaning of Magnet® professional governance, where nurses shape practice, influence outcomes, and lead meaningful change for those we serve.

The Care Site Council is a shining example of collaborative nursing leadership. Each member brings their unique voice, expertise, and lived experience to the table, creating a safe and inclusive space for innovation. Their decisions are driven by one central truth: patients deserve exceptional, compassionate care, and nurses deserve the support and empowerment to provide it.

This year, the council achieved several remarkable accomplishments that have directly improved the quality of care, strengthened professional development, and deepened the sense of belonging across the IAH nursing community:

• Record-setting advancement in professional growth
The council supported the highest number of Advanced Clinical Ladder promotions ever, creating a culture where nurses feel valued, recognized, and motivated to grow. This accomplishment reflects their belief that when nurses thrive, patients feel the difference.

• Night shift advocacy: A voice for the unseen hours
By addressing critical issues such as patient meals on night shift and blood specimen concerns, the council demonstrated deep empathy for both patients and staff. Their improvements ensured that every patient, regardless of the hour, felt cared for, and every nurse felt heard and supported.

• Professional Development Fairs
The council led two successful and well-received Professional Development Fairs, connecting nurses with resources, mentors, and opportunities. These events fostered curiosity, confidence, and a sense of shared purpose, reinforcing Magnet principles of lifelong learning and professional autonomy. Additional tables were added this year including EAP, InovaWell and Research/EBP opportunities.

• Recruitment and retention initiatives
Through creative, relationship-centered recruitment and retention events, the council strengthened the pipeline of new nurses while nurturing the engagement of current ones. Their efforts uplifted unit morale and reaffirmed that IAH is a place where nurses belong, grow, and are celebrated.

• CEPE (Clinical Education & Patient Experience) new initiatives
By collaborating with CEPE to roll out new educational and practice initiatives, the council helped integrate evidence-based standards into daily care. Their leadership upheld the Magnet vision of disciplined inquiry and practice excellence.

• Research, EBP, and Innovation & Safety initiatives
The council championed new Research, Evidence-Based Practice, and Innovation/Safety initiatives, empowering nurses to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and bring forward solutions that support safer, more compassionate care. Their contributions directly elevate our nursing practice and contribute to a culture of inquiry.

Throughout every project and discussion, the IAH Care Site Council operates with compassion at the center. They consistently ask: “How does this impact our patients? How does this support our nurses?” Their work ensures that new nurses feel welcomed, experienced nurses feel valued, and patients experience care that is coordinated, thoughtful, and human.

The IAH Care Site Council deserves the DAISY Team Award because they embody the heart of nursing: teamwork, advocacy, excellence, and a deeply felt commitment to improving lives. Their leadership inspires all of us, and their impact is felt by every patient, every nurse, and every corner of our care environment.
