Ian was such a compassionate nurse to my grandfather when he was in the ICU. Ian always took the time to explain things to us and made sure we were always comfortable. Ian went out of his way, and above and beyond. He sat down and talked with us and made a hard situation a little bit easier. Ian was on top of checking on my grandfather and his medicine.
My family was at ease being in the hands of Ian. He went out of his way and brought snacks to our room as we didn't leave the room to go eat. Words can't explain how grateful we are to have had Ian as my grandpa's nurse. He really made this hard time better just from his caring, compassionate personality. My grandfather ended up passing, but there was a calm about having Ian (who did everything). He made a hard/painful time easier and more comfortable. Words can't explain how lucky we were to have had Ian during this hard time with my grandpa.

Ian was more than a nurse to myself and my family. He included us in on everything he was doing and why. Taking care of a person with family members who are in the medical field is hard. As a nurse, I understand more than most, so when Ian included me and asked me my thoughts, I felt very included in my grandfather's care.
My grandfather was very lucky to be able to have Ian as his nurse for 3 days in a row. He knew my grandfather very well. He knew when we took the turn for the worse, but he never stopped trying. He asked me, "Did I miss something?" I replied, "No, I think it is his time." Then I asked him, "As a family, did we do or miss anything wrong" (of course I was crying). He was so sweet and kind. He said, "No, you have been here since the start."
On the last day going into the night, the family decided to take my grandfather into comfort care. This by far was the hardest thing my family had to do. That night, I stayed the night for the 2nd night in a row. Ian knew that I was staying. He then went out of his way to get me some snacks and drinks (and I don't mean 1 or 2; he had a bowl of snacks and drinks.) When he said goodbye to my family and grandfather, he started to cry. As a nurse to see another nurse cry reminds you, we are all human and have feelings. This is very compassionate on his part.
As the night nurse informed us that Ian had called a few times in the night to check on my grandfather, this shows that my grandfather touched his heart as much as he touched our hearts. There was nothing more I could have asked for. I cannot stress how comforting Ian made my family feel.
