I need to tell you about Ian. Ian has been AR‘s nurse twice in the 4 weeks. Ian is the type of human I try to be every day. Overly gentle in his care with AR, like beyond delicate every time he touched her. But overly assertive and demanding when asked about her care and what should be done. So well informed about his job. Attentive. He spoke to her calmly every time he had to touch her. He assured her things would be ok. Even with her being nonresponsive, he spoke to her like a human being. He asked me repeatedly if I had questions. When I would stop talking, he encouraged me to talk to her more. He said, “she can feel you’re here.” Ian repeatedly reminded me that he chose to be here. Ian was born to do this. We should all be more like Ian. He needs to know how DOPE he is and how much he was appreciated. I told him, but he should be told again. He’ll probably say that’s how we’re supposed to be, but he’s different. Thanks, Ian for setting the standard.
