My wife came into the hospital from being pregnant and she was not herself at all. She was acting very strange, and I hadn’t ever seen her like this before. She was not talking properly, and I was really worried about her and my unborn child.

I just wanted to make a comment on how Iasha Thornton was with my wife – she spoke to her like she really cared about her well-being and made her clean and comfortable. I noticed my wife always maintained her dignity because I said to Iasha, I don’t really want her exposing herself as we are Muslims, and she wasn’t acting herself. She understood that and she pulled the privacy screen up for when changing the sheets and getting her into a gown even when my wife was screaming. She got her pain relief as soon as she could and kept offering me emotional support as I was a mess. There came a time when she became very unwell, and I wasn’t myself because I broke down. I don’t remember much but my brothers said that Iasha offered me and my family continued support and drinks and asked if she could help us at all.

I was then told my wife’s condition is life threatening and that she must go to Leeds hospital. From the get-go Iasha was my continued support before my family came in and I knew my wife and baby were in good hands and would have been happy to receive the care from her. My wife would have appreciated it so much as she did everything and more for us, even when she looked like she was busy & trying to get everything done. 

Unfortunately, my wife and baby passed away and I’ve still not come to terms with this, but a friend told me when we were talking about the hospital care she received from Iasha about the DAISY Award nomination as he also works in medicine. Even in this situation, another nurse in charge was quite rude to my brother who was also very anxious and unaware of how serious my wife’s condition was. Iasha apologized on her behalf and tried to make sure he was okay when alone in the other room as I was busy with doctors.

Iasha was a brilliant nurse who empathized with my situation and offered her care, compassion and support to us and other nurses when she was busy. Just a massive thank you, from myself, my brother and 2 angels in the sky. Keep being you. A caring and compassionate nurse who cares a lot about her patients. I will never forget the care my wife and baby had before they passed away.
