July 20, 2017 Porter Health - Daisy Award Nomination
I am a ... Family Member
Name of nurse you are nominating ICU Surgical/cardiac Unit
Unit where this nurse works ICU Surgical/Cardiac
Reason for nomination:
On June 7, 2017, my 70 yr old father was in a tragic accident. He had been out by his pool dumping chemicals, when his blood sugar became low. His girlfriend arrived and found him on the pool deck. She proceeded into the house to get his glucagon injection. When she came back, she found him floating lifeless face down in the water. She pulled him over to the side and turned him over and yelled for help. The Portage EMT's arrived and he was without a pulse. They started CPR and continued to work on him for 15-20 minutes when they told his girlfriend he wasn't going to make it. They then stated they had something and they were going to Porter Regional Hospital. When he arrived in the ER, they continued to work on him for 75 minutes. After that, he was taken up the second floor ICU Surgical/Cardiac Unit room 2405. The first nurse I encountered was Brit. She sat down in the chair next to me and explained everything that was happening. She not only took care of my father on her shift but she also took care of me. Every nurse we encountered for the next 12 days also did the same. They not only took care for my father but for my family too. They were caring, compassionate, and attentive to us and my father's needs. The ones I can just name off the top of my head are Bob, Greg, Jeremy, Kristy, Brit, Cheryl... etc. You all are amazing at your jobs and thank you for all your compassion at such a tragic time in our lives. I would also like to thank Dr Graves and Dr Ramey for all that you did during his hospital stay. My father is grateful for all of you that took care of him during his stay. Without all of you, he would not be here and back to his normal everyday life.
With that said, I would like to nominate the entire ICU surgical/cardiac care unit for the DAISY award.
Thanks again,
Heather Kostelnik, daughter of Russell Rogers
