This wonderful nurse really made a difference! I will never be able to repay her for her kindness and compassion.
I was scheduled for a hip replacement at Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital; even though this was my second hip replacement, I was still very nervous, and anxiety was at an all-time high. Because my wife was with me, I was trying to stay calm and strong because I didn't want to upset her -but I was truly afraid, yes, I was scared!
My surgical experience here at Ortho was, in all my anxiety, a really great experience. From the up-front registration desk, all the way through my discharge, everyone was efficient, kind, and professional. I would recommend this hospital to anyone, and I have! But there was one nurse that, even while I type this letter, brought tears to my eyes and a true peace going into my procedure.
As I laid there in my OP surgery bed, I was again trying to stay strong. That was until the doctor came in to check in on me and I broke down. l teared up and admitted I was afraid. He gave me a comforting word and left the room. I looked at my wife and we said a quick prayer.
Then I had coworkers that came up to wish me well and at that same time, my nurse, Ida, came to my bedside and with a look of love and true compassion said this: "I see you are anxious; would you be ok if we gathered around and prayed with you?"
I responded, "Of course; that would be wonderful. Thank you!" There I was, in my bed, surrounded by my wife, a few coworkers, and this incredible nurse saying a quick prayer for comfort and peace and for the skills of all the workers involved in my case. I have never been more touched in my life. It was exactly what I needed at that time. This wonderful nurse really made a difference! I will never be able to repay her for her kindness and compassion.
