In the clinic, I recently received a call from a patient who was exhibiting concerning clinical symptoms that required immediate attention. The patient was experiencing high blood pressure, significant chest pain, and was noticeably short of breath. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I immediately reached out to our nursing group via chat to seek expert assistance.

Ilsa Waterman, RN, responded to my request almost instantly. She provided clear, calm, and expert guidance, instructing me to direct the patient to call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department immediately.

Ilsa is a cornerstone of our team. She is consistently an incredible resource. She is always quick to respond, exceptionally knowledgeable, and possesses a kindness that makes a stressful workplace feel like a true community. However, in this instance, Ilsa went far beyond the standard call of duty. Not only did she provide the necessary clinical triage, but she also took the initiative to call the patient back personally. She stayed on the line with the patient, providing comfort and monitoring her condition until EMS arrived at her home.

Knowing that the patient was not alone during those frightening moments—thanks to Ilsa’s dedication—was a profound relief. We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside someone as compassionate, proactive, and skilled as Ilsa. She exemplifies the true heart of nursing, not just through her clinical expertise, but through the genuine care she shows for every patient we serve.
