June 2016 Honoree
imelda callanta, RN
My mother was placed on the fifth floor waiting for an opening on the Hospice Unit. After spending twelve hours at my dying mom's bedside it was my decision to stay overnight. Imelda made sure I was set for the night. Chair, pillow, blankets and comforting words. Later during the night, I felt someone touching my feet. It was Imelda placing booties on me. About 2:00 A.M. she came in to check on Mom and me. "We just made coffee at the nurse's station, do you want some?" I've never felt so much kindness. A woman who really has a calling to be a nurse. Her patience with me and my mom was more than I ever expected.
Thank you, Imelda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
